Valerie Rubinsky's Photo Story

For my roommate's birthday, we had a dress up party. So beforehand I took pictures of some of my friends showing their outfits off. I wanted to avoid the usual posy smiles and capture the energy of this group of girls. However, I figured I should include one more traditional picture. This is my friend Cassie, in the background are Rayna and Katie taking a picture of themselves.

Cassie (left) and Meghan (right) are our neighbors and close friends. They are always particularly animated.

Meghan, whose face and finger are highlighted in this picture, shows off the gems she put on her middle fingernail.

Meghan is being goofy.

Matt Carey's Photo Story: The Result Of A Break-In

On the evening of Saturday, September 19, the house that I share with four of my
friends was burglarized.

The items stolen included three laptops, an iPod, and an Xbox 360.

Along with the stolen items came various damages, including a broken TV stand (which was put to use as wood to jam the windows shut) as well as a busted DVD rack.

For a group of college students, every cent counts, so a burglary like this is particularly devastating.

Fortunately, the group has recovered, and is now seeking alternate housing, deciding that the burglary was the last straw for this house.

Emily Shimko- Union Mill Acres Pumpkins

At home in Lancaster over the weekend I had the opportunity to take advantage of the beautiful weather and visit Union Mill Acres pumpkin farm.

People walked around, buying fall decorations and viewing a wide variety of pumpkins, gourds, asters, and indian corn.

A closer view of the fall decorations displays the rich colors and textures I observed. For me, autumn is really nostalgic.

The stacked pumpkins are held together by gravity only. Displaying variety and vibrancy, they are one of my favorite displays.

As a traditional farm family, the owners have a small herd of children who seem to be especially dirty and needy.

On the way out I thought about how much I liked fall, but also how short the season seems to be. As with every natural progression, even the best things come to an end eventually.

Kevin Yorke's Photo Story

It was a particularly rainy day with nothing in the world to do. Seeing as though all of my clothes that were fit for others to see were in the wash, the option of actually being seen in public was definitely not available.

Coming to this realization, I eventually reasoned that reading about the history of the American Nation had caught my fancy, and I decided to read about it in "Idiot" form.

"The American's have no where to go now!" I said to myself. "Washington has no chance!" But alas, the redcoats are defeated at Trenton. "How could a ragtag bunch of ne'er-do-wells defeat the powerful redcoats?" It wasn't looking good.

The French had come around the rear and surrounded Britain, spelling an end to the war. "Not the French! Anything but the French!" I proclaimed, and launched the book.

Here is the book in orbit.

I stomped out of the room, extremely angered by this shocking read.

When I entered the hall, I slipped on what I could have sworn was a musket stuck in my legs to trip me. After landed on my head and regaining consciousness, I laid on the floor and saw something quite peculiar.

George Washington had collected a troop strength of approximately $3 of US currency and was about to mount an assault!

I had mere seconds before the General deployed the bills, and I was transfixed by their parachuting skill.

"Save me!" I cried. The rest is a blur. Since that day, however, I have never again doubted the power of George Washington.

Shooting The Assignment

As a sports photographer for The Temple News, I was assigned to take pictures at the first football game of the season. Temple is taking on Villanova in the inaugural Mayor's Cup. I live in Cherry Hill, NJ, and this is where my story begins.

As I drive over the Benjamin Franklin Bridge, I can see a great view of the Philadelphia Skyline. I can tell that I will be arriving at my destination very shortly.

I have finally arrived at my destination. Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Philadelphia Eagles and our very own Temple Owls. I put on my press pass and head over to the media entrance. The entrance takes me to the press box. After grabbing a quick snack that was provided for me, I head down to the field for the game.

When I get to the field, I search for the best possible spot to stand so that I can capture all of the action. Watching a football game from the stands is great, but being on the sideline is even better,

After getting all the shots I need, I head home and upload my photos to my laptop. I spend about an hour going through all of the photos and picking out the best ones and editing them.

Finally, the final copy that I am ready to send in to the photo editor.

With one final click I send the e-mail and my assignment is done.

Andrea Lorenzo's Photo Story

I've come to realize that most of us probably don't eat a lot of what were supposed to. Ramen noodles and frozen pizzas taste good, but they're really not that good for you. Cooking for yourself gives you the opportunity to alter the ingredients in your favorite foods to make them more healthy.

My obsession with T.G.I. Friday's potato skins is almost nauseating. So I decided to make potato skins at home using non-fat, low-fat, and light ingredients. Aside from the bacon, which I'm pretty sure doesn't have a healthier alternative, everything in the recipe is good for you!

The first step is to wash the potatoes. When you pick them up, you can feel the dirt all over them. I just put them in a strainer and washed them for about 30 seconds.

Then you toss them in the microwave! Set it to four minutes, then turn the potatoes over and cook them for another 4 minutes. It's important to stab a few tiny holes in the potato (with a fork) so it doesn't explode in the microwave. That would have made for an interesting photo story. "How I Blew Up My Microwave..."

When they are finished, let them cool for a minute before you cut the potatoes in half. Then, grab a small spoon and scoop out most of the potato inside the skin. Leave about one centimeter of potato thick on the skins.

Set your oven to 425 degrees and place the skins in to bake for about 10 minutes. When they become a little crispy, pull them out of the oven because it's time for the good stuff.

Mmm! It's time to add the cheddar cheese, bacon bits, and chives! When you've loaded your potato skins to your liking, turn the oven off but place the potatoes back in for a few minutes just to melt the cheese. The bacon should be precooked before putting it on the potato.

When the cheese has melted, pull them out of the oven. Wait for them to cool and then put them on a platter with some sour cream in the center. Ta-da! Potato skins in just about 25 minutes.

Cait Berry's Photo Story "A Trip to the Regency"

This first shot was taken as I approached the cafe from down the street. I tried to get a sunny day as the whole area is lined in trees and make some cool shadows later in the afternoons.

Here's a close-up of one of our signs, this one on the theater marquee that the cafe shares a building with. I thought it made pretty clear where I was and what the theme of the story was going to be.

Next, is the shot of the actual store front. I thought it would be cool showing the outside and inside through the windows.

Showing the progression of the story, the invisible customer approaching the front counter. More of a quick snap at what people get to look at while they wait in line.

Here is the picking out of syrup flavors, an essential part of the coffee trip, but I really liked the colors of the bottles. Most of the shop has green or brown hues so I wanted to get some color in.

Here we have the invisible customer ordering their drink from my co-worker. Another key part of the storyline, but also a wider shot of what the counter looks like in the shop: lots of colors, bottles and different things going on.

A quick shot of the food case from the inside out. Going outside in gave too many reflections.

The finished product! After selecting the syrups and ordering of course comes the actual cup of coffee.

Last, we got a quick picture of the condiment station. The final step after getting the coffee is the cream and sugar. Enjoy!
